In this season of spending time with family and friends, going to camp and on vacation, it can also be a busy time for head lice in the DFW area. Life Lifters put together a few helpful hints on how to prevent lice transfer.
Why are Head Lice a Problem in the Summer?
Head lice thrive more in warm months. The reason for this upswing in head lice infestations have more to do with the fact that kids are out of class and doing more active and interactive things like:
- Attending summer/day camps
- Attending summer classes/sports
- Hanging out with friends
- Going on vacation to crowded places
Things like summer camps can especially put your child in close contact with others. The likelihood of lice moving from one person to the next increases dramatically in these kinds of environments.
Don’t Use Selfie Sticks
In our culture of all selfies, it’s no wonder so many of our kids deal with head lice. Since lice are transferred by direct head-to- head contact, this is a no brainer. Put the selfie stick away to make sure you don’t need lice treatment.
What Else Can I Do??
Have your kids bring their own pillows, brushes, and hats to sleepovers to avoid sharing with friends. When your child comes back from camp or from spending time at a friend’s, check for nits. Nits are more easy to see in natural light, so take a few minutes to see if you notice any nits on your child’s scalp. Bring your child in for one of our head checks that we offer at Lice Lifters. Drop by and let our certified Lice Lifticians take a look for themselves ass see if you need to worry about a head lice treatment.
